What a shame
Limited run of 50 Giclée prints
Expression Smooth paper
29 × 30 cm
This piece depicts a discontinued C Stock train in a former London Underground depot that once lay beneath the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre. Both the exhibition centre and a section of the depot were demolished together, along with surrounding communal housing, to make way for new luxury developments, a process that contributed to the displacement of local communities. The work reflects on the loss of industrial and communal spaces, and the transformation of familiar environments through redevelopment.
The title, What a Shame, conveys a sense of absence and erasure, acknowledging what has been removed and replaced. The subject is presented as a quiet record of a place that no longer exists, highlighting the tension between preservation and progress, and the shifting identity of the city over time.
